Proverbs 31 woman

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”

This woman is classified as a wife even before marriage, this is because as a woman, you do not learn to be a wife in your husband’s home, rather, you prepare yourself while you are single and until you are well prepared then can you confidently say ‘yes’ to the man God has also groomed to be your husband.
What does it mean to be noble? It means possessing very high or excellent qualities or properties. Anything noble is rare. Therefore, a wife of noble character is rare, she builds herself while other ladies get drunk on a friday night, she keeps herself while other girls are getting laid, she knows her God and fears Him while other ladies are being swayed by the trends of this world.
As a noble wife, you will not be accepted by the world because it takes the Spirit of God to attain such qualities and the world wallows in the indulgence of the flesh which continuously acts against the Spirit of God (Gal 5:17).
In order to gain such qualities, you need to draw closer to God by studying His word so you can grow in your faith (Rom 10:17) because without faith you cannot please the Lord (Heb 11:6) and also so that you will be convicted of your inner sins (Heb 4:12). Then, it will renew your mind (Rom 12:2) transforming you and building in you the fruits of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) which is the perfect character of a noble wife.

Proverbs 31 woman (15)

“She makes [fine] linen garments and sells them; And supplies sashes to the merchants.”
Supply: the act or process of filling a want or need.
The verse today has to do with more and more businesses. Today, as the world spins, so does the trend change. What was in vogue years ago have long been forgotten now, meaning many businesses that were profitable before, have now gone out of market due to these evident changes that have occurred, as a result, having businesses in various sectors can grant one some level of financial security. Although this does not provide total assurance as we concluded last week, but it helps us to be comfortable while it lasts.

The proverbs 31 woman invested in diverse businesses, she knew that no matter how the trends change, people will still need to live in houses, wear clothes and eat, so she purchased lands, made and sold garments and planted vineyards. Realizing this was an eye opener for me, it helped me to notice the trend of events and note the essential commodities that will always be needed and invest in them. We need to not only consider the present but more importantly, the future. We are mothers of generations and the legacy we leave for our unborn children to meet is very important.

While preparing towards financial security, how are we preparing for eternity? Are we acquiring properties in heaven where moth and insect can not destroy and thieves cannot steal? Are we even thinking of it? The greatest gift we as mothers can give our children is the knowledge of Christ and to bring them up in the way of the Lord. The Bible says when they grow, they will not depart from it. Aside selling garments and making money, are we also spreading the gospel. Do people only know us for supplying sashes to merchants? Or they know us for supplying (meeting the needs and wants of) the poor? The Bible says give and it shall be given to you, not just in the measure you gave but overflowing with a condition that you gave it willingly.

Remember the young rich man? He did everything well, so much that Jesus loved him at first sight but he was disqualified by his inability to give. Therefore sisters, as you acquire and gather so much for yourself, do not forget that God has blessed you so you can bless others. It is not easy though to give especially after working so hard to obtain it, that is why you need the Holy Spirit. He comes to abide with us with a gift of love. Since there is no love without giving, you will easily give to the people in need whether you know them or not, even when there is no hope of a refund. If you don’t have the Holy Spirit, now is the time to say “Loving Father, please send your Holy Spirit into my life so I can love like you love, to the extent of giving up my life for others just as you gave up yours for me. Amen.

Proverbs 31 woman (14)

“Her husband is known in the [city’s] gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.”

Admire: to feel respect and approval for (someone or something).

According to The Passion Translation (TPT), this verse says “Her husband is admired by all.” When you admire someone, it is usually for a good reason. No one is admired for the way they gossip, or lie, or prostitute themselves around, but you can be admired when you are intelligent, righteous, godly, kind, humble etc.

1 Corinthians 15:33 says “do not be deceived, bad company corrupts good morals.” A man that lives in the same home with a troublesome wife will end up becoming hostile when he can’t take it anymore. A man that lives with a gossip, will end up being a gossip, a man that lives with a dishonourable woman will not be able to live honourably because she will bring shame to him. In other words, for this man above to be admired, his wife had a huge part to play in this. The way people pity a man with cancer, is the way he is pitied when he marries a bad wife. King Solomon said “The integrity and strength of a virtuous wife transforms her husband into an honoured king. But the wife who disgraces her husband weakens the strength of his identity (Proverbs 12:4).

Also, as Christian ladies, do we have any thing in us people can admire? Do we make people admire Christians? Do we make them admire Christ in us? Are we handling the light in us so well that wherever we are people admire us, in our homes, place of work, school, even at the gym etc. When we see royalties, we admire them because of the way they carry themselves, we too are a royal priesthood, we are the children of the King of kings, we are princesses, therefore let is behave likewise. Not as one with pride, instead, as one with the Holy Spirit living in them.
Let us be wise women, builders of our homes, not the ones that tear them down with our own hands. Let us give life to our family and not be like bone cancer. In other to do this, we must have Jesus in us. For it is His life in us that radiates to those around us and His presence in our lives that makes us wise. “For the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom”. If you don’t not know Him, please say with all sincerity “Lord Jesus, come into my life, send your Spirit to live with me and teach me how to live a life that will be admired by all”. Amen!
